A crisp, cold morning greeted us today, everyone in fine spirits — even Eddie, who somehow seemed to have forgotten that Swiss mountains could get cold, even in the summer, and had forgotton to bring any warm clothes.
On the road cycling between Gruyere and Interlaken
An abrupt climb out of Broc first thing this morning, cold too, in the forest. The best thing about it was the smell from the Nestle chocolate factory down below! On the road there was one big climb at around the 20km mark, from Jaun up to Jaunpass. Six kilometres of steep road in the warm sun, the views back down to Jaun were magnificent.
At Im Fang, Switzerland suddenly became German, it was strange, one minute we were still in the French part of the world, the next minute everything had gone German, the look of the buildings, the road signs… Strange too, since it wasn’t at the top of a ridge, or across a river, the divide seemed to be half-way up a valley.
