Nearly fully recovered from the failed experiment into Ubuntu, Debian has finally finished downloading all the packages that it wants to turn the machine back into a Debian “testing” box, and by choosing their 2.6.8-2-686-smp kernel, I’ve got my network card back.
One forward and two back. Restarting the machine gets me my network back, but X11 stops working. Manually fiddle around inside /etc/X11/xorg.conf
, then ended up having to manually create the mouse device files! (mknod psaux 10 1
), since “./MAKEDEV busmice
” stated that it was creating them, but didn’t.
Finally, after yet again telling an X configuration program that the monitor does 30-70kHz horizontally and 50-120Hz vertically, and that I would like 1280x1024, I seem to be able to run X11.
An extra blessing, the sound seems to be working.
