Noticing the announcements last weekend as “internet time” ticked over 1600000000, sparked a thought about the numbers and their display and a pun on “prime time”. When is the time a prime? How would I display it?
A quick query on wolfram alpha and the next few primes are available:
1600000009 | 1600000019 | 1600000021 | 1600000069 | 1600000091 | 1600000097 |
1600000099 | 1600000153 | 1600000163 | 1600000177 | 1600000183 | 1600000187 |
1600000223 | 1600000307 | 1600000319 | 1600000321 | 1600000331 | 1600000343 |
1600000357 | 1600000403...
Then yesterday I saw a mention of someone’s “passive aggressive meeting clock” in the background of his cross-timezone zoom meetings, pointing out to other participants his local timezone, and cheekily set a couple of minutes fast to help meetings finish on time.
Laying in bed last night it must have percolated around, I had an idea for the display on a clock; standard seven segments and then a “prime” light that comes on when it hits a prime and fades out, a bit like a geiger counter. Maybe too ephemeral, perhaps a second set of segments showing the last prime time…
88:88:88 < now
88:88:88 < last prime time
Now all I have to do is build it…
