Absolute stunner of a day. Number one son has a curriculum day from school so we went out for a few hours – drove out to Yarraman at the end of the Djerring trail then rode down the Eastlink trail to the bay and back. Near flat the entire way and along bushland, farmland with creek, swamp and river all around. More birdlife than you can shake a stick at; hilights were the pelicans, egrets & darter, but a huge flock of straw-necked ibis & a pair of swamp harriers close by overhead came a near second. Amazing down at Carrum at the boat ramp, so many cars & trailers that traffic management staff were in place, and boats as far as you could see up and down the river and out into the bay. Carrum’s looking pretty good now that the level crossing is gone & a “sky rail” is in place, starting to look like a beach holiday town
Along the way it not only incorporated keeping him & me enjoyably entertained for the morning, my daily ride – 307 of 366 so far – but the fourth coffee of the annual coffeeneuring challenge with a short macc. at Freddies in Carrum
