Family tandem ride, the old Trek T50 rides again!
Sold the Brumby tandem with the low rear end, number one son gangly enough now to fit on the rear of the full size Trek. Despite a few years unused in the garage and needing a bit of TLC, its a pleasure to take the beastie out for a cruise.
A little apprehension at the thought of going to Kennet River, our normal trip is only Wye River, but endless annoyances and frustrations at the Wye cafe prompted the choice. Stoker agreed once we explained that the extra 5km was mostly flat, all the main climbs are around the headlands between St George, Sheoak, Cumberland and Jamieson rivers and creeks.
Lovely cruisy ride, down to Kennet, coffees – or hot chocolates – and cake, then back on the bikes and retrace our route. Plenty of blackberries at the side of the road, a late stop at St George to visit a patch a little further off the road and less dusty wasn’t too productive – too close to the car park, its been stripped!
Grabbed some bread rolls at the bakery and through the main street traffic back to the house, up the hill, no granny gear today, the gear gods frowned – we made it… just… on the lowest ratio of the middle ring
