I did it all for the cookie. The Cookie. ☁
Something had happened on the Monash freeway and the traffic had turned to treacle, riding down Forster road I could look up at a long line of stationary traffic heading inbound. Forster road itself was nearly stopped, two long queues, one coming off the freeway, one trying to get on to it, both trying to squeeze through the roadworks under it.
Further on after some pleasant riding through damp bushland along the creek I came out to cross Huntingdale road. Bumper-to-bumper semi-trailers as far as the eye can see, all the way from the freeway over the hill, down to the creek and up to Ferntree gully road. Nothing moving. The bike path lights changed to orange, to red, and as my light went green the truck driver decided to drive through the crossing because the gap in front was just big enough… good thing I’d waited!
A bit more bushland and out onto Atkinson street, no trucks, but up at the intersection with Dandenong road they’re all queued up nose to tail heading towards Warrigal road to make their way back to the freeway. One genius decides that he’ll partly fit across the intersection and near gridlocks it with his trailer, as our turning light goes green I manage to squeeze around the tail but only because the driver of the oncoming turning car went out of his way to drive a weird zig-zag through the intersection.
Finally up and into Oakleigh, straight up Drummond street… emergency stop as the furniture removalists drive straight through the give way sign and turn across in front of me. Clearly grumpy because they’ve been stuck in traffic, I slid to a stop to avoid going under the truck.
Contemplated writing something witty about at least I had my legally required bell so I could go “ting-ting” at them
