Out for my daily lockdown exercise along with number one son, we meandered about through Oakleigh, down the gravel path by the golf course – a discovery made last year during lockdown strava stalking – then around bits of Oakleigh south to Karkarook lake. The path around the lake was packed, endless groups of people out for their lockdown exercise & socialising, not paying a lot of attention to the requirement for “exercising with at most one other” or “mandatory mask wearing”. Then a minor diversion south along a gravel track before turning and heading home on a straighter route.
Shortcut through the BMX park lead to a chance meeting with one of his friends from school, then up the bike path to North road where it ends, dumping you into Golf Links road, narrow, parked cars on both sides & lots of traffic. Parted company at the railway, him to go home, me for a quick visit to the fruit shop and a run in with a pair of local boyz in their BMW – one parking the car and one walking towards it yelling, “Ay, youz parked in a disabled spot, bedda move” then seeing me ride along the aisle to cross the front of the parked car yells to his mate “Fuckin’ run the c*t down!” Much laughter, standard Oakleigh attitude. Turned my head to look at them as I rode past in silence and immediately up he goes on the balls of the feet, fists up, “Oi, what did you say?” Spoiling for a fight, standard Oakleigh attitude
