If we’d known about the Arapiles Big Sky Trail yesterday, and had the bikes with us, we’d have ridden it on our way through the area. As it was we didn’t find out until we got to the tourist information and were on our way out, so we decided to head back today and ride the trail – with me planning on riding out from Horsham first. The weather forecast didn’t look great, but the we figured we’d be back before the rain started
Horsham to Natimuk by myself, then join the family for the 33km Arapiles Big Sky Trail. The trail varies from tar or dirt roads to single track to just a few wheel ruts along a fence line in a paddock. A great way to see the local area, but not in this weather!
Cold & dry then drizzle, then far too much 6°C and rain. All three of us absolutely frozen & soaked when we got back to Natimuk. I can’t remember a ride where I’ve felt that cold or where my hands were so totally numb at the end that I couldn’t unclip my helmet, couldn’t peel off my wet clothes. Annoyingly, the only place to get changed is the public toilets in the park, with nowhere to put your clothes. Oh so very character building.
