What very sticky mud they have around here!
After packing up and checking out of the motel we rode off along the levy beside the Loddon river, exploring the side roads and paths and picking our way through the riverside red gums and scrub. Over the river on one bridge only to be met by some very sticky grey mud and a change of scenery to low boring scrub so back to the eastern side. Next bridge took us to what I thought was an island, and a walking track to an old mill, but picking our way along it got us to an overgrown patch and no sight of the mill. Back the other way, thoroughly disoriented with the grey overcast sky and we came out at the railway bridge, so followed the bridge back to town and around to the station. From town we wanted to go further east to see a wildlife reserve, but chose a dead-end dirt road that ended at a locked gate. Too cold by now and the fun had gone out of it so we retraced our steps to the centre of town, had coffees and rode the last few blocks into a very cold headwind to get back to the river & down to the car
