Rubbish rainy afternoon ride. Hit by a driver on the Djerring trail bike path on the way out, then punishment hooked by a ubereats driver on Neerim road on the way home.
Every railway station car park along the Djerring trail has driveways that cross the trail, every one of them has a Give Way sign – superfluous, as drivers should give way regardless when crossing the path. Any time there’s a driver coming in or out they rarely even slow if there’s a cyclist coming. Today at Carnegie the driver slowed to a near halt, looked left, looked right, then she drove straight across the path into me, I guess she was looking for cars on the adjacent road.
Then homewards, one of Glen Eira council’s finest pieces of total crap bike lanes, shared parking and bike lane along Neerim road. The only thing they’re good for is angering drivers who think you should be riding in them. Today a food delivery driver who passed me twice, first time could have just been cluelessly close, second time he definitely hooked at me while passing, presumably because I was “outside the bike lane”. Half a block up Neerim road he stopped and went in to a takeaway to sit and wait to collect his order, it was very tempting to take his wing mirror off as I passed…
