Family ride on a warm and windless sunny spring day. Me on my AWOL, Jo and Cam on the tandem, after a small bout of seat wrangling involving grease, rust, recalcitrant seatpost bolts, allen keys and an adjustable spanner. The two of them now have the same length legs so the rear seat doesn’t need to move, but when Jo and I swap as pilots up and down it goes, the reach to the bars is a bit short for me, too far for her
Short ride to Huntingdale for a coffee - unsure where else we’d go past an open shop so chose to have one near home, then off south just before noon.
Explored parts unknown down a near deserted Old Dandenong road and found ourselves in farm-like countryside, quite odd given we were still within 10km of home. Back into suburbia at Dingely Village then out the other side and into Braeside park…. along with seemingly half of south-east Melbourne’s population! Lots of family groups, picnics, walkers and riders as we looped around the park and down to the wetlands and bird-watching spots where there were plenty of birds to be watched.
Home mostly a reverse of the route down although along slightly different roads, the skies clouding over and a cool breeze coming up from the bay. Tried to call in at Huntingdale for a souvlaki for a late lunch but the takeaway had a mysteriously faulty eftpos system and was “cash only”, no cash meant no lunch, so home for sandwiches instead
