I happened to notice yesterday that there was one day to go on a climbing challenge I’d entered, and somewhere over 200m of climbing left to do. Clearly nothing for it but to go up and down and make sure I completed it, for what is life without strava challenges?
Squally rain clouds kept passing over, a few times raining on me and a few times I just missed them. Up and down, roads I don’t think I’ve ever ridden even though its only one suburb north. Stopped at one point to try and help a guy put the chain back on his MTB, unfortunately he’d stomped HARD while changing gears and jammed it between granny ring & bottom bracket, nothing except removing the cranks was going to help. Gave my apologies and continued on my way until finally I’d had enough and turned for home. Back down the hill to Huntingdale wetlands, helped some other riders reattach a quick-release wheel that had “come off” and then over the hill to Oakleigh. A brief roadrage from two young guys in a ute, a scream of abuse as they passed in a cloud of tyre smoke, then home without any more excitement or interest
