With a name like that, I’ll have an Ed Kuepper earworm every time I look at the ride
Weather forecast all day had been for afternoon storms, but a glance at the BOM radar seemed to say it’d go past to the south, so I thought I’d be ok for today’s ride…
Secret Christmas chores were calling so I slung the lock & mask in the bag, the bag on my back, and jumped on the fixie and pedaled around to Harvey Norman with looming storm approaching. The chin-masked security guard looked at me as I asked for the “click’n’collect counter” and asked whether I was after a small or large item…. was tempted to tell him I was here to pick up a ‘fridge
Collected small item and was back outside as the lightning started and the black clouds got closer. Off north to Gardiners creek and downstream, under Warrigal road, around Markham reserve and up to the Anniversary trail, turning back south as the storm hit! A howling wall of twigs, leaves, dust, grit, gumnuts and rubbish hit me head on, closely followed by the start of the rain…. light at first, but increasing as I descended back towards the creek. Rain most of the way from there back up through Murrumbeena, finally easing off for the last stretch home in Galbally reserve where all I had to contend with was 100% humidity and an all-enveloping cloud of small black insects getting in my nose, ears, eyes and mouth!
