Green and blue, but no black. A family outing with Cam & I riding around the mountain bike tracks
Roadworks and misreading the map took us on a roundabout route to get to the car park and get started – I always wish that Lysterfield was closer to the train line so it would be easier to get there by bike & train
Cam wasn’t that eager for anything difficult or strenuous so I thought we’d just take the green route, the wide fire road around the lake and possibly detour up the blue route at the north end for a taster, then cut back on a parallel fire road once we’d had enough. As it was we ended up doing the entire blue loop, albeit slowly and with a few dismounts. Nothing too difficult for anyone used to mountain biking, but its been ages since we’d been properly off road, plus I was being cautious on the touring tyres on the AWOL
Dozens of other people out on what was a fantastic Sunday afternoon, everything from dads with one small kid to family groups, couples on e-bike mountain bikes and a few quick competent individuals. No hassles with traffic or passing though, everyone there very friendly and considerate
Bypassed the short section of black track with a short straight fire road, albeit straight up and straight down, then rejoined the lake track for the last section around and over the dam and back through the throngs at the playground, picnic ground and swimming area. No sign of the kangaroos today, just a solitary musk duck paddling around near the dam and seagulls squabbling over scraps!
