A brief ride up to the station to wave my phone at the card reader and “tap off” – my phone went flat on the train ride earlier and if I didn’t recharge it and get back to the station I’d be charged a day ticket rather than a 2hr ticket.
Then off up towards Caulfield and an encounter with numerous bits of roadworks and railworks, presumably all to do with the impending level crossing removals at Neerim and Glen Huntly roads. I suspect this will be an area best avoided for the next 18 months! As it was I ended up in and out of construction zones, past a plethora of stop-go people and was beginning to wonder how far south I’d have to go to cross back over the rails. Then back up through Carnegie and home along Neerim road and the near mandatory encounter with an angry motorist, angry that a cyclist is not riding in the bike lane that can’t be ridden in due to parked cars, angry enough that I got the roar of the engine, the swerve in while passing, and the shouted abuse to “get in the bike lane”.
Glen Eira council has a lot to answer for with its insistence on building unusable bike lanes, good only for enflaming the rage of drivers when people can’t ride in them
