A family ride along the rather grandly named “Intercity Cycleway”, although I’m not sure which cities it runs between, outer Hobart to inner Hobart as far as I can tell. There’s nowhere to park or get changed at the very end so we drove a block further and found a park with a toilet block, unpacked the bikes from the car and got ready
Very nondescript bikepath along derelict railway and backs of industrial buildings, but with detours around #MONA, bits of river, and the botanic gardens. V. windy returning to get the car
MONA was a frustrating visit, no tickets, but we thought we could have a look around the outside. Well you can, but they treat bikes like cars and you have to park them quite a distance away and walk up and around. It is forbidden to ride or even walk and push your bikes. Of course we hadn’t brought a lock so I ended up staying with the bikes down in the car park while the other two had a brief exploration.
Lunch at a waterside park in one of the bays and the weather changed while we were sitting there, from sunny and still to light clouds and a gusty north-westerly, at our backs as we continued down river to the Botanic Gardens for a look around, then pushing us around on the last stretch to the Tasman bridge before turning for home. Then we realised just how strong it was and decided that since our night’s accommodation was nearby we’d ride there then I’d ride back up to Claremont to get the car. They’d made the right decision, it was an unpleasant slog back alongside the derelict railway and back fences of industry and I was well pleased to finally get to the car and out of the wind
