A late start after lunch, out along the Great Ocean Road from Lorne … Gardabund country … and along the coast through Wye River to Kennett River. A glance at the cafe to check that they were open then at the distance ridden and I decided to keep going out to 25km then come back for my coffee. Part way up one of the climbs and into a gusty wind was far enough so I turned back for coffee at one of my favourite spots, the Koala cafe at Kennett.
About to leave and a driver walked up to me exclaiming he’d overtaken me at least three times, we got talking and he was Danish, working in Canberra and down here for the long weekend traveling around. We walked up the side road looking for birds and koalas, no birds to be seen, but there was a solitary koala in the last gum tree up the hill, so he was happy with that
Too much standing around talking though, I was a bit late leaving to head back on a grey afternoon and had the lights on all the way to Lorne. No real problems with the traffic though, just the usual mix of around half of them passing illegally close, and one lung-full of screamed abuse from the passenger in the back of a small hatchback
