Well it started out silly but ended up a bit too serious. Was debating where to go for my daily ride & glanced at Strava, saw a recent ride up the pipeline track with minor Wandrer detours and decided I’d see if I could follow it… exactly. Didn’t have the daylight to do the whole thing, but I think I made most of the seemingly random small block circumnavigations and dead-end explorations, eventually getting up to the bike path that runs alongside the Ringwood rail line. Time consuming as I had to keep stopping to pull out my phone and compare maps, but entertaining in its won way. Time to turn around here, so a few blocks straight south and rejoin the Eastlink trail/Dandenong creek trail to be back on known ground all the way to Jells park.
Decided to keep going down the creek as far as Wellington road, then west to home and unfortunately got a grandstand view of another cyclist crashing hard after hitting two dogs. The owners had stopped one each side of the bike path and were having a chat across it, with the two dogs sitting in the middle. As I approached from one side and the other rider approached faster from the south and rang his bel, they both moved back … but the dogs got excited and jumped about, tangled and stayed dead centre in the path where the other guy went straight over them, crashing down over the top. Lots of screaming and pain unfortunately, and then all standing around calling an ambulance. Eventually left as there was nothing more I could do and another four people were attending to him, rode the rest of the way home in a sombre mood.
