Intention had been to get over to the Marybyrnong river, possibly even the other side, then make my way down to the bay and back. As it was I followed the Anniversary trail up and around to where it crossed the Yarra, then managed to get lost – again – in Alphington. Building sites all around, no sign of where the bike path goes or how to get to the Outer Circle trail so I took off in a semi-random northerly direction up through places I’ve not visited for decades. Eventually found myself up in Coburg & Coburg Heights and by chance discovered the start of the Merri Creek trail so I followed that all the way back down towards the city. Lots of Sunday morning dog walkers & joggers, cold patches down in the creek valley & warm up in the sun. Almost back at the Yarra and I spied a sign pointing me off towards the Outer Circle trail, a sign I needed an hour ago before this little detour! Then it was around the north of the city, down through Docklands and Port Melbourne to the bay and a quickish ride around the bay as far as Warrigal road before turning north at noon and getting home for a late lunch
