Chores to be done at Lorne, rather than drive down I caught the train to Waurn Ponds and rode. Did chores, ate lunch, rode back and caught the train. Simple
6.05am prelude, woken by garbage truck
8.50am depart WP
10.00am coffee at Anglesea
11.35 arrive in Lorne
3.15pm arrive WP
5.30pm home
6.00pm encore, flat tire with a piece GOR of wire
It all went remarkably well & according to plan, stunning clear blue skies and little traffic along the GOR - what there was is mostly tradies working & retirees holidaying, only a couple of tourist mini buses. The wind picked up a bit between Aireys Inlet and Lorne, then again after lunch back as far as Aireys Inlet where it died down, then fairly strongly in my face from Bellbrae to Waurn Ponds, but nowhere near as bad as it has been overnight the past few days! There was a serendipitous coffee stop at Anglesea for a very tasty cappuccino & croissant, and snacks before and after at Southern Cross station. Only real hassles of the day were being blown off the road by a dangerously close-pass from a McHarry’s bus on an otherwise empty road, and some stuffing around with the metro trains to get home from the city, and finding the rear tyre going soft on the last 300m to home hen having to extract a sliver of wire and patch the tube before I could sit down and have a beer
