Path Subject to Flooding, 3 peaks, with four others. Almost entirely on bike paths; Mt Cooper, Mt Ridley and Mt Gelibrand, and an excellent bakery café in Westmeadows
Medium thick fog as I left home around 7:25, it didn’t lift until 9am at Mt Cooper, but then revealed a clear and sunny near perfect day for riding. Most of the day there were two off in front of me and two way off behind me, but at a key part near Mt Gellibrand where I was about to hurl my Garmin into the bushes the first two caught me up as I’d passed them when the stopped for lunch.
I was on my fourth or fifth turn around a few streets trying to make sense of the routing directions and had seen the “Off course, make a u-turn” prompt just a few too many times in a row, together with near simultaneous messages that “Climb starts in 0m” and “Climb complete”. Luckily the two of them had been up Mt Gellibrand previously and new the way, so I rode with them up to the top and on to our next food stop in Westmeadows
Other than that, relying on the Garmin course via RidewithGPS worked fairly well, I think I can see its limits on previously unvisited routes where there are lots of side streets and turns and will pay more attention to checking the route in future
