Day one of our family overnighter along the Gippsland Plains Rail Trail, we parked the car near the Traralgon railway station, unpacked the bikes, loaded up panniers and bags on mine and set off for to find the start of the trail. No real signs about but not too hard to find if you’ve checked the map prior.
A very straight path, mostly sealed, alongside the road most of the way towards Heyfield, with a moderate amount of traffic noise when we were near the road
Mid-afternoon start and a leisurely pace, together with a few stops to look around old railway signs and station locations meant we got to Heyfield around 5.30pm, in time for a beer and a relax at the Railway hotel before checking in to the motel rooms, cleaning up, then back into the pub for dinner
