Last day of the four day rail trail mini holiday, fourth rail trail as we rode the new section from Leongatha to Korumburra and on to lunch in Loch, back along the trail towards Melbourne. I rode it twice, once in each direction, the other two came slower back as far as Korumburra and I met them with the car
Finding breakfast at the start in Leongatha was a problem, seemed everywhere was closed, but eventually we found a small cafe that wasn’t McDonalds and ate and ate until we thought we’d burst
Back to the station area where everything is under development and new facilities are underway, retraced our route to where we’d started and finished last time we rode here, then off along the new path. Generally warm and climbing most of the way to Korumburra, there seems to be a complete lack of signage along the route - perhaps that comes later
A stop to stretch and look around the Korumburra station area, the building being renovated and the old turntable and goods shed. From here to Loch is overall descending, rolling green farmland and on the last few km some woodland. Lunch in Loch was a minor culture shock, from the quiet of the trail and the country towns, we popped out into a small village, but its a packed tourist destination, people and cars everywhere, and the home of the $18 toasted sandwich! Still full from breakfast, we only shared a few bites, then back to the trail to retrace out steps; Cam & Jo leisurely to Korumburra, I upped the speed a bit and rode all the way back to Leongatha, enjoying the afternoon and the sunshine
One sole magpie on the outskirts of Leongatha was my only swoop of the weekend, Cam had one a day or two ago, a pleasant change from the non-stop swooping up near Myrtleford this time of year a few years ago!
