Two hour triangular loop involving Scotchmans Creek, Dandenong Creek Eastlink and Djerring trails, with a coffeeneuring not-quite-coffee squeezed in for good measure. Didn’t quite rain on me, although it kept looking like it would, and the north-easterly winds were a bit unexpected
I’ve been past “Code Five” in Wheelers Hill many times when riding to Jells Park, but it always comes too early in the ride to stop for a coffee, although it looks a popular, if oddly placed, cafe. What better excuse than #coffeeneuring outing number three… and a Turmeric Coconut Latte. Not quite a coffee, but it was in the coffee section of their menu and I was curious enough to try. Interesting, but probably a one off, I shall have to return to try their other coffees and food
Half hour break with the drink, as the cafe closed up around me, then on to Jells Park and a wonderful little birdlife tableau, as I passed between the tennis club and a strip of bushland there were three birds on the ground all feeding from a single patch of seeding grasses. One Eastern rosella, one King parrot, and a gorgeously metallic Common bronzewing. The two parrots flew off while the pigeon waddled slowly away into the bushes only a metre or two away and watched me pass
Then down the hill into Jells Park, keeping an eye out for the kangaroos in the gloomy afternoon, but no luck today. On down the Dandenong creek trail, cautiously entering each underpass and having to ride through 10cm of water under Wellington road. Turn off onto the Eastlink trail and follow it to Yarraman, then home along the Djerring with the wind almost behind me and the exercise helping to stretch out my slowly recovering left calf
