A frustrating and drawn out process, out for a gentle meander around the suburbs, and to swap over the new brake pads from Wednesday for the correct ones for the BB-7 brakes – I’d been given the wrong type. I got to Koornang park in Carnegie and decided I’d pull out the old pads, put in the spare ones from my bag, and then go to the shop to swap the new wrong pads for a correct spare set… well the old ones fell out, the piston decided to follow them, and the remains of the spring broke in two. After around 20min of fiddling around and swearing nothing on this earth could persuade the new pads to fit in, or the old ones to fit, even with the spring from the new pair, so I carefully wedged the piston back where it should go and rolled down to the shop with no rear brakes
Easy swap over of pads from Wednesday to the correct ones for the BB-7s, but they’re closing up the workshop so I can’t get them to swap the pads, “but it should be easy”…. well it always has been easy, and I have never seen the piston fall out. I got home and once I had my reading glasses I could see that there was a circlip that I suspect is meant to hold the piston in, but now stuck out too far for the piston to fit back in. More fiddling around and eventually I was able to reassemble it all. Perhaps after 8yrs and 45,000km I might be reaching the service life of the caliper…
