One does not simply cross the railway lines … not for another six weeks at least … so I decided to ride up to Poath road and back down Willesden to get to Oakleigh shops, calling in at what used to be my local bakery when I first moved to Melbourne in ‘96. Leaving home the backyard was full of smoke, I thought it was the rail crew burning something and didn’t think much of it… but then half way down Willesden road saw barricades ahead and two fire engines busy dealing with a fire at the Greek Orthodox church. Managed to make my way past along the footpath, although all the other traffic was being directed off up side streets
The rest of the shopping was fairly uneventful, fish from the fish shop, bread from the bakery, although I couldn’t use the shortcut around the back of the block because the homeless guys that sleep rough there had built up a barricade and blocked off the path. Oh well, back along the roads, through the station underpass and home
