A family outing, up to Caulfield on the Djerring trail and down along the railway works to E.E.Gunn reserve, checking the progress of the level crossing replacement works. Then it was follow the Rosstown trail to the bay, a coffee in Elwood, follow the planets around the bayside trail to Station pier and the two very large cruise ships, keep going a little further to find pluto, then back to Station pier and up to the city alongside the 109 light rail. Got to Southbank to join Luna New Year mayhem, hundreds of people everywhere and the “shared path” barely walkable, let alone rideable. The 10km/hr speed limit signs a laugh, I think we averaged 4.2km until we finally got through. Then it was off along the south side of the river, found ourselves caught at the outside of Midsuma festival, and finally out to ordinary Sunday levels of rider traffic along the south side of the river around to Burnley, then cross over and take the Main Yarra Trail and Gardiners Creek trails home
Longer and later than expected, we probably should have stopped for lunch somewhere, a pastry in Elwood and emergency lollies on the homeward stretch kept everyone going, although I do have to top up my emergency lolly stash now, not a bad thing considering the age of some of the jelly snakes!
