Biting the bullet and declaring the experiment over
Some time back around 2012 I became interested in Openphoto, which changed into trovebox, but then turned into abandone-ware. I’d spun up the server at openphoto.ajft.org on AWS and uploaded photos on and off over the next six years, then went back to Flickr as it just kept on working and kept on being more useful given the size of the community
In the depths of my todo list was an question to decide what to do, where to put my photos, and to carry through with it. Much as I like the idea of self-hosting, and the sunk cost in time and effort I’ve put into OpenPhoto – I still use the original name despite the rebranding as Trovebox – today I’m finlly cancelling this and I’ll be deleting them all as soon as I make sure any references to them are moved to photos on Flickr. Considering it a failed experiment; All it’s doing is costing me money in AWS fees and duplicating photos that were before & after, held on Flickr
