First day of a non-cycling holiday far from home and I’d thought that the run of 1291 days in a row riding my bike would come to an end – its got to end some day and I was ok for it to be now. It would have been, except for a wonderful spouse who went above and beyond the call of duty and contacted a coworker in Brisbane who has a cycling partner who was prepared to lend me a bike for the week! So off we drove to Brisbane, collected a very shiny and only lightly used roadbike, packed it into the back of the hire car and drove back to Maleny
There will only be time for short rides around town and surrounds to fit in with the family holiday, but that’s alright with me! For a first ride today I roamed around town, doing battle with my shoes and its pedals and having to perform a highly exaggerated “click out” maneuver every time I stopped. Thought I’d head around west and south and curve around to the showground then back along the riverside path, but I’d got it all wrong on my glance at the map and found myself off in a housing estate with no connection back to anywhere, so back and around the correct road, then found my way to the showground. Oops, too dark for an unknown riverside path on someone else’s road bike, so I took the roads back home, thankful for the well charged lights
Up and down and around, but lots of up. Teak street in particular has a lot of up. Unfortunately the cassette on the borrowed bike doesn’t quite go low enough for me and here, or it might, if it would stay on the biggest cog at the rear without jumping down one as soon as I put any load on the pedals
