The plan was Yarragon to Warragul via the ridge. Caught the train from Clayton out to Yarragon, first port of call a local cafe for a coffee and muffin then time to head south. Leaving town was easy, about 2km or so of the local “Yarragon Track” that parallels some local roads in a loop south of town. Then turn off and start to climb. 10km out as we got to the top of the ridge we missed the McDonalds track turnoff – too busy enjoying the first downhill of the day – and kept going for another 10km through rolling descents of plantation forests & farmland before I checked the route more carefully and found we’d missed it. So the ride became 20km out and 20km back, by the time we’d climbed back up to the turnoff and realised it was another 24km from there to Warragul we thought it easier to return to Yarragon, lunch was calling. Fantastic day out rolling around though. Pies from the bakery and icecream from next door and a sit in the sun in town then caught the V/Line home again
Perhaps next time I’ll load the route into my Garmin rather than rely on glances at the map and memory
FFS, can these strava geniuses learn the difference between “decent” and “descent” when they label their segments! Perhaps strava should auto-flag the “decent” ones
