The AWOL is at the shop having the bearings replaced, the fixie has a puncture, the roadie has flat tyres and was last ridden in October 2022… and we’re all out of spare tubes that’ll fit the fixie. I know, I’ll ride up to Carnegie and buy some long-valve tubes… BUT FIRST, I shall swap a tube from the roadie to the fixie. Carefully inspected tyre and old tube and still cannot find a source of the puncture, so in went the tube from the roadie. This took some time, the valve stem is long but not really long, so pumping it up is a hassle, then jump on and ride off and BANG, it blows out as I got to the far side of the road. Much swearing. Back home. Tyre off, tube out and I finally can see that the tyre has split along the wire bead, so I guess that’s what caused the puncture… and the three before that. Can’t patch it, the patch kit and my tyre levers are in the framebag on the AWOL which is in the bike shop! OK, we’ll take a spare tyre from the shed and the one remaining tube from the roadie. Again, much cursing, then I found out that the valve is too short and there is no way I can get the pump on. Argh! Tyre off, tube out, other fixie tyre off and its remaining tube out, then tyres and tubes back onto the roadie, pump it all up and FINALLY head out to the bike shop – in jeans and runners on a roadbike with cleats …
Except I got up there at 5.40 and they close at 5.30, so no new tubes for me!
Back down the Djerring trail to home, I think its time for a beer
