Perusing the map of the local area I’d looked at all the dirt roads and tracks and decided on a bit of a challenge. How about this one, seems to make a reasonable shortish loop, and I thought that it it goes wrong, reversing back out would be easy enough
More hike than bike on much of the climb. Steep rocky fire track up to the ridge, nearly flat at the top, medium to steep descent … with one section of what looked to be 45° down, eroded and rocky, nearly unwalkable let alone walk and lower a bike down it. Three hours out there in the hot sun, 1.45 to 4.45, although Strava thinks I only rode for under half that due to the amount of walking and standing in the shade!
I did manage to include a brief exploration of the local showground, a pleasant local rural road, and an enjoyable section of the Licola road on the way out, all up until when I crossed the river and started on up Brosnans track!
