I guess that was the Strathbogie ridge. Whoa. Nasty last 10km to Merton, than thankfully rail-trail gradients from there to Mansfield
The first of my two-day overnight escapes to come up to the Great Victorian Rail Trail for an escape, some riding, and to join an organised ride – the Tour de Trail this weekend. The plan was to catch the train up to Euroa, ride across to Mansfield, stay overnight, ride the Tour de Trail out and back the next morning, then back to Euroa, back on the train and home
So far so good, I got to Euroa and made it over to Mansfield despite not having checked the elevation along the route and being unpleasantly surprised at the road and the climbing to get over that Strathbogie ridge to Merton. There was a fair bit of climbing, including a short bit of walking, warning signs, and ominously, the wreckage of a crashed car on its side in the bush, fresh police tape wrapped around signalling that it had already been attended to
A much needed iced chocolate and onto the #GVRT for an enjoyable spin through the countryside to Mansfield, dodging endless grasshoppers and just having fun being out on the bike
