Found ourselves up at Mt Gambier’s “Blue Lake” in the early afternoon and had driven up to a lookout, decided that the best way to get a full view of the lake was a lap on the bikes. There’s a narrow concrete footpath that has the better view but you’re not supposed to ride on it, or the road. There’s a few signs around the road saying “Scenic bike route”, but it’s narrow, two-way and has a huge proportion of retirees in large 4WDs, often with caravans, making for unpleasant riding. It could do with a rethink if the local council wants to attract more people out of their cars there – perhaps leaving the north-south road two way, but making the rest of the loop anti-clockwise only, and adding in a wider shared path
A shorter ride than I’d expected – I think I’d guessed 5+km, but with spectacular views and colour today, I hadn’t realised that it’s only blue some of the year – and most definitely blue today although we’re at the end of the colourful season
