Did i get wet? Why yes, indeed I did
I’d been keeping an eye on the skies through the afternoon, then checked the weather radar at 4pm and thought I had a fair chance of getting home between storms. I was even optimistic enough to take the longer route along the Scothmans Creek trail, perhaps I’d be able to make it to my local and have a Friday afternoon beer …
It was not to be. The rain started as I turned off Forster road onto the trail, but only lasted a minute or two as I sheltered under an information sign and again checked the weather radar
The main problem was the tunnel under the Monash freeway, I’d completely forgotten how badly it floods whenever the creek rises … and indeed the creek had risen. The creek in its channel was up higher than the bike path, and the combination of rain running down the path and water pushing up through the drains and cracks had the water in the tunnel well up over the top of the chainring on the #fixie. Absolutely sodden shoes, and it stinks
Squelched the rest of the way home and hosed off feet, shoes and bike. I should have worn my sandals – something I’d half thought of this morning before leaving home
