I was expecting a hot ride home, the forecast was for 30°C, I stepped outside to find the cool change had come through a bit early and it was ten degrees cooler than that!
Oh well, off down the creek with a bit of an extra loop same as the last few times I’ve ridden home. East Malvern station and turn south, Belgrave road up the hill into the cold wind to Dandenong road and at the lights exchange pleasantries and comments on the weather with another rider. Across Dandenong road and into the bumper-to-bumper grid lock of Murrumbeena road, traffic inching south towards the railway. Luckily the bike lane is empty so its clear sailing all the way the to Djerring trail and turn left onto the bikepath …
Goodness me, what a circus. Murrumbeena station appears to have a full complement of large red vehicles & most of the police from SE melbourne. Of course senior sergeant einstein has barricaded off the place with police tape … three sides of a square, leaving the bike path in from Murrumbeena road open, so you ride straight in and find yourself IN THE MIDDLE OF THE EXCLUSION ZONE BEING YELLED AT. The polite statement “Hey, you need to close off the bike path” resulted in a fairly aggressive stomping towards me and more shoutage, complete with arm-waving to get out and join the bumper-to-bumper gridlock mess that is Melbourne’s Marvellous Motorists(tm)
Escape back out onto Railway parade, made my way down past all the lined up fire appliances and back onto the Djerring trail, then resumed the ride home. I wonder what mayhem was going on there?
