Jo and I went off for the morning, out to Porepunkah and south down the Buckland valley until we decided it was far enough, then turned and retraced our route, stopping for lunch at Porepunkah
I think we’ve ridden down the valley once before, as far as the bridge over the Buckland river … and towing a trailer with a toddler in it, so probably over ten years ago! This time we went on a kilometre or two from the bridge, stumbled on the cemeteries, first the Chinese one up on the hill – or at least the monument stating where it was before the stones were all illegally removed – and then the “Australian” cemetery back at the road
Farmland, orchards and vineyards for the first half or more, then bush-land closing in, much of it badly overgrown with feral thickets of blackberry bushes. A bit of bird-life, but overall too hot, we spied a pair of wedgies circling near Mount Buffalo, and a Sacred Kingfisher darting over the road
Lunch at Punkah Pantry on the return trip was excellent, as was their iced coffee
