Someone in VicRoads finally got the memo, after more than a decade of inactivity, the bike path down the middle of North Road seems to have had some love & attention. The path has been swept and the edges have been cut back, so it is back from the reduced 30-40cm total width to 2m for its entire length! They’ve also been through with a concrete grinder and taken the edge off some of the badly lifted slabs – it doesn’t fix the lifted slabs, but it should lower the chances of pinch flats
I also got my first real ride along part of the Djerring-Scotchmans Creek off-road #bikepath through Oakleigh when it was busy. Got on the path at corner of Oxford/Burlington in Oakleigh, rode 5m forward and had to stop as drivers come straight out across the path from the gym, including some who then turn left and drive down the bike path to use it as a shortcut to get to the roundabout! Definitely no accident, they’re using it to pass the bumper-to-bumper cars on the parallel road. Of course when they get to the end, the cars driving on the path then stop to try and push into the roundabout traffic, completely preventing any cyclists getting past!
Needs a huge sign in the car window, “DANGER, OAKLEIGH DRIVER”
