Found that what I’d always thought was a car park entrance turned out to be a narrow internal lane through the hospital and – eventually – out the other side. Certainly not a short-cut, but an interesting change from my usual route
Then detoured back north from the Djerring Trail up to Dandenong Road to re-use the new connector bike lane up and over the hill to Oakleigh shops. Thought that perhaps I should give it a few goes, help train the local motorists that there are bikes where the signs say there are bikes, and that they should start to pay attention to the “Give Way” signs at each side crossing. I really can’t see many people using it, each side-road crossing involves a zig-zag, right angle turn to get away from Atkinson Street, then a right angle turn to cross the side road, a right angle turn to get back to Atkinson Street then a right angle turn back in the direction of Atkinson Street. Any half competent or frequent rider along here is likely to skip the bike lane and use the road, raising the ire of the drivers. I guess I’ll see what happen when more people are back at work, so far I’ve not seen a single other person using it
