Out and about exploring some gravel and trails where I could, out under a dark cloudy sky and south to Karkarook Lake, arriving just as the a few spots of rain started to roll in. Riding around the lake there was a bright flash of colour from a table of partying young women determined to have their champagne picnic hen’s outing – they called me over as I rode past and asked me to take their collective photo, then I took one for myself
Onwards and southwards, down of drenched wet roads and a long straight that looked as though it should lead on to a park, but ended at private property backing onto the golf course. Retraced my steps and ended up in traffic and roadworks on Kingston Road, so jumped out to the grass-covered verge until the next escape. Further south, roads, bike paths, bike lanes and the long gravel trail down to Patterson River, then decided to try heading back north on the west side of the river. Mostly successful, a gravel road past all the water ski infrastructure and eventually running out … but a quick detour up and over the large berm and found myself on a road and could keep on going north until I rejoined the Dandenong Creek trail. A fascinating outing, and longer than I’d intended
