The late morning was all mine so I headed out on the shiny bike to hunt for some urban gravelly bits, first port of call was down to Karkarook Lake and a partial lap, then a glance at the maps showed how to join up with the path down towards Braeside Park. Unfortunately once I got down there I met some barricades and road works, so a detour was called for …
Off into an industrial part of Braeside, which also happens to abut some lakes and ponds, and a sneaky cut-through along a single track beside the lake, popping out at the next major road to the south. Then into Waterways, around their beautifully manicured lake, admiring their architectures, and found myself at a coffee shop – literally – the path dumped me into their outdoor tables! Coffee and cake, then around some more of the lakes, back out towards the bay and more gravelly paths down to the river. From there it was back home up alongside the Patterson River and Dandenong Creek, and the straight stretch of the Djerring Trail
