One of the bicycles I’ve owned over the years.
A 27" road bike – red – purchased second hand out of the newspaper – for $150. Bought a few months after my Apollo II was stolen and used for many years for touring and getting around town. First ever ride was memorable; after spending a weekend or so cleaning it and getting it rideable, I took off down the driveway, turned too sharp, caught the front wheel in a rut in the road and fell off and grazed up my knees. So I picked myself up, walked back up the driveway, put the bike away, cleaned myself up and made a mug of tea and collapsed on the couch.
Eventually iti too was stolen in Maffra, Victoria, during the 1990 Great Victorian Bike Ride. I was not impressed with Bicycle Victoria’s response to this news, their words were that since I had no bike I had to leave the ride immediately and go home, and the general feeling was that they didn’t want to know about thefts or other unsavoury activities on their big fund raiser bike rides.
